The 10th Annual
Lasher Family and Friends BIG GAME BANQUET March 28th, 2008 at The Crest Pavilion, Asheville NC
Thank you to all who attended!
The event was a huge success. We were able to introduce many non-hunting/non-fishing people to our outdoor lifestyle and, there is an unconfirmed report of one Vegetarian that LOVED the Southern Fried Quail! Without the support of our friends with Wilderness Taxidermy and Bobby and Blue Ridge Tradition, this would not have been "THE EVENT OF 2008"! Our friends with FHFH held a successful raffle, raising over $2,500 to feed hungry people lean, healthy, hunter harvested venison. A great time was had by all!
“Four Points” of our Great Nation - North*South*East*West
NORTH
“Medicine Hat ” Camp Grill”
Deep in the heart of the Northern Prairie lies Medicine Hat, a frontier city in the sloping Saskatchewan valley where rivers converge and migratory Bison move among the cottonwoods along with deer and moose, wolf and jackrabbit, Native Americans, French Canadian Trappers, American frontiersman and Eastern adventurers. The life was rough, but around the fire at the hunting camp the bison, venison and elk steaks were sizzling, the beans were hot and the biscuits could sustain you for a week.
SOUTH
Cajun Crawfish Boil
In the bayous and coastal plains of southern Louisiana where French-Canadian immigrants from Nova Scotia settled over 250 years ago, the Crawfish Boil is far more than a meal. It is a celebration of the first order where sausages and soups and breads and all the glorious bounty of the land and sea weighed down the familial table. Accordion and fiddle gave rhythm to the aromas of centuries of living off the land.
EAST
Low Country Plantation Boil
In New England they have the Clambake. Here in the Carolinas we have the Low Country Boil. Roasted Oysters, Boiled Shrimp, BoiledCrab and Fried Surf Fish blended well with corn, potatoes, sand, flip-flops and shag music.
WEST
Chinook Celebration Potlatch
For thousands of years many of the Native Peoples of the American and Canadian west have built their culture, their social hierarchy, their very sense of self on the concept of “Potlatch”. A Potlatch is a party or feast in which leaders and clans displayed their wealth (and create obligations in return) by hosting lavish, gift filled gatherings. Fish and Shellfish, Game from the lush coastal rainforests, mushrooms, berries in their seasonal turns, and the pulsing tide of Coldwater Salmon that coursed annually through their rivers and streams would be typical fare and the power of gift-giving was the theme
